Lakeside dorm holds Just Dance tournament

Just Dance tourney

Lakeside residents competing in a "Just Dance" tournament.

The rugs of Lakeside Residential Complex at the University of Florida were officially cut on Wednesday evening during a heated videogame dance-off.

Ubisoft campus representative, Jay Uy, set up the “Just Dance” tournament in order to promote a larger upcoming “Just Dance 2” tournament, which will coincide with the new game’s release. Uy said the dorm event, which drew about 40 people, was quite a success considering this was his first time setting up a dorm event.

“I think a lot of people loved the game. They’re still playing even though it’s pretty much over,” Uy said, motioning to a group of three people dancing while “Jerk it Out” by Caesars blared from the television speakers.

Uy said he will be holding another “Just Dance” tournament in a different dorm within a few weeks, and he also hopes to announce the official venue for the “Just Dance 2” tournament there.

Garrett Littlejohn, a Lakeside resident, won the tournament even though he didn’t enter it. A friend put his name on the competition bracket as a joke.

Littlejohn said he’d never even played the game before. Nevertheless, he took the win while dancing to The Trashmen’s “Surfin’ Bird.”

Littlejohn had only one thing to say about his victory: “The bird is the word.”

That seems like a really fun tournament! I’ve never even heard of this game before. But after reading this post, I’d love to enter and play at the next event. It’d be pretty nice if Ubisoft did something like that at the Reitz Union because I’m sure there are students who would love to play the game but who don’t live in the dorms.

I think this is really cool. I wish they had stuff like this when I was a freshman. I agree with Alex that they should set this up in the Reitz Union.

This was a great post and it kind of makes me wish that I lived in a dorm again (not really!). I also love dance games, but I’m not sure if I would play it if it was set up in the Reitz :-). Great picture.
