As Playstation phone video leaks, what do we know about PlayStation’s next-gen portables?

Rumors and a few photos are all the industry has had to go on for the currently in-development PlayStation phone, but this weekend a new and crystal-clear video of the mobile device surfaced, fueling yet more speculation.  According to Engaget, who broke the news on Saturday, the Sony Ericcson brand phone is currently codenamed Zeus Z1.

What can be seen in the video is clearly a mobile phone with a touch screen and a slide-out control surface.  It has a similar look to the PSPgo, PlayStation’s most recently released portable device.  The video also shows what appear to be apps for the phone, one of which is labelled “PlayStation.”

The PlayStation phone video isn’t the only leaked information on PlayStation portable devices making waves this week.  On Monday, Edge reported that Sony had filed patents for, among other things, a device that, according to the patent documents, consists of “a case having first and second major surfaces; a visual display disposed on the first major surface; a touch interface disposed on at least one of the major surfaces.”

Could this be the prototype for the much anticipated PSP2?  Destructoid’s Jim Sterling suggests that the patent describes a device similar to the Nintendo DS:

Expect a PSP2 with two screens and touch control, then six months later you can wait for an innovative new model that boasts 3D gaming without glasses.

He could be correct, but only time will tell just what Sony has planned for its next generation of handheld gaming devices.  While you wait, why not watch the leaked video and imagine how amazing “Angry Birds” will look on that awesome screen?
