Gamestop and IGN announce online media partnership, world domination

The Wall Street Journal’s Kara Swisher reports that IGN Entertainment, one of the largest video game news and information sites on the Internet, will integrate its online media with GameStop, the world’s largest video game retailer.  Sound strange?  You bet.

So what is in it for these two behemoths?  IGN has been taking strides recently to increase its traffic, including the implementation of social media in the form of IGN Social, and including GameStop into the mix only increases the scope of its presence. Substantial site traffic is exactly what GameStop’s web presence has lacked, and the added exposure is bound to be incentive for the partnership.

Although the details of the partnership are not public yet, Kotaku reports that “IGN will be creating (and presumably selling) ads on GameStop.com; IGN editorial content will appear on GameStop.com; and, inversely, IGN.com will inherit plenty of GameStop.com e-commerce buttons.”

The situation may seem entirely beneficial to both parties, but it is not without some shades of grey.  After all, GameStop owns Game Informer, a video game magazine that is in direct competition with IGN. Could this new alliance open the doors for IGN to merge or even completely engulf Game Informer?

Perhaps the most confusing and concerning aspect of this partnership lies within the idea of a news outlet forging ties with a retailer. It seems that this sort of relationship could potentially undermine the credibility and reliability of IGN’s reporting, as it could be biased toward the company it keeps.

While GameStop and IGN might have developed a new and blossoming relationship, in the words of one beloved status update, “It’s complicated.”

i was looking frrwaod to the third installment of BloodRayne. I loved the first and second one. The first one is slightly better to me. The second one has other cool features the first one lacks and vice versa. I hoped they would bring them together, improve the graphics and give her new vicous finishers. They should make her bites/feeding more brutal and add bites to the combo like biting off a finger or two to disarm, ripping out the jugular with her teeth then watch the guy bleed to death
