Dragon Age II: hack-n-slash or pause-n-play — you decide

Dragon Age II” will be completely playable in real-time or in a more strategic pause and play fashion according to BioWare, the game’s developer.

The original “Dragon Age” was supposed to be playable in either fashion as well, however, this was simply not the case. With balancing issues left unchecked, the real-time game was left rather stunted making this play style virtually impossible on the higher difficulty settings.

The changes detailed in the video seem promising, especially the new streamlined look for the HUD. However, with no aerial view for the camera, it may become tricky in endgame scenarios to accurately target your foes while using the pausing method.

On March 8 2011, we’ll see whether these changes can transform the lumbering mechanics of the first title into a soaring beast of Ferelden.
