Valve, EA work out distribution deal for Portal 2

It’s pretty much understood that “Portal 2” is one of the most anticipated games of 2011.  Yesterday, Valve announced an official release date for the title and a finalized distribution deal with EA.

Teaming up with EA is something Valve is familiar with, having partnered in the past to distribute the original “Portal” in “The Orange Box.”  While EA will help get “Portal 2” into stores, Valve will continue to handle digital copies of the title on Steam, its online game store.

The distribution agreement for “Portal 2” will also take advantage of EA’s marketing capabilities.  Valve’s VP of marketing Doug Lombardi told Gamasutra that a “first-class launch campaign” will precede the game’s April 21, 2011, release date, which was also confirmed yesterday.

Having a final release date allows gamers everywhere to breathe a sigh of relief, especially considering the project has already been delayed twice.  For the sake of those who have already put in for a vacation day, let’s hope the date is set in stone.
