Kinect to get Gears of War on-rails shooter

Rumors of a “Gears of War” title being developed for Microsoft’s Kinect are true.  A source familiar with the project has confirmed the existence of the title, which will be an on-rails shooter.

Though details are very sparse, Kotaku reports that the game “appears to re-use some assets from Gears of War 2.” The name is also unconfirmed, but Siliconera recently discovered that developer Epic Games filed a trademark for “Gears of War: Exile.”

“Gears of War” is the first hardcore game franchise to have a confirmed Kinect title, but it’s certainly not the only one rumored to be in development.  We recently reported that a “Halo” title might also be in the works for Kinect, and we suspect it would likely have to be an on-rails shooter as well.

All these core titles are great and all, but we wonder if an on-rails iteration can do these beloved franchises justice or if this is just a ploy to get core gamers to purchase the Kinect.  While we speculate, tell us: would you buy a Kinect to play a “Gears of War” on-rails shooter?

This sounds like a terrible idea to me. While I’m sure Epic could pull off an interesting game like this, I just have zero interest in playing it. I wonder what demographic they’re aiming for with this game.
