Yu Suzuki on Shenmue III – “I think Sega will let me make it”

Fans of Sega’s long-dormant Dreamcast darlings “Shenmue” and “Shenmue II” may have scored a lucky hit at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco.

Yu Suzuki, respected game designer and lead creative force behind the Shenmue project, stated that he believed Sega would indeed let him make a sequel to the games with “Shenmue III”, among the most requested sequels in the entire industry.

However, this is contingent on “budget issues,” suggesting that the astronomical budget of the first two Shenmue games, which Suzuki confirmed at $47 million rather than the oft-quoted $70 million sum, would have to be effectively managed in order for there to be a “Shenmue III”.

While this isn’t the fated “Shenmue III” announcement that fans have been waiting a decade for, the legions have yet another reason to keep the faith alive.
