PAX log — Friday part two

PAX aerial - playwisegaming.comLines, 3DS, Joystiq Podcast, SOCOM 4, Firefall and more

If I learned anything from my first day at PAX, it’s that people like to line up for the panels early…very, very early. Unfortunately, I missed four seperate talks that I was planning on attending because I didn’t get to the line early enough.

If you ever attend PAX, be aware that to get into all the panels you want to, you must get there a minimum of one hour prior to their starting times. Even then, you’ll be towards the back of the line.

Even though I missed out some talks, I still got to go to a few others, and I got to walk the expo floor for quite a while. I got quite a few shots of people and booths, and the exhaustive amount of pictures are in the gallery below. Oh, and here’s that floating pikachu I promised you earlier.

The talks I was lucky enough to attend were… Actually, as I’m writing this I realize I only got to attend one talk other than the two I mentioned in my previous post from today.

So, the one talk I was lucky enough to attend was the live PAX edition of “Joystiq Podcast.” The guys from the show; Chris Grant, Ludwig Kietzmann and Justin “Hoops” McElroy; were in good spirits, and it was pretty entertaining.

There was a lengthy Q&A with tons of questions that aren’t really worth recounting here. However, at one point the guys asked the audience if anyone thought they could be better game journalists than they are.

One member was picked to review a copy of “Super Street Fighter IV” on a 3DS in a scant 20 minutes. After he did the review live and gave the game a 10/10 and the console an 8/10, they let him keep the 3DS — nice! It was a Japanese import though, so maybe not that nice…

Anyway, the whole thing ended with a group hug session, and I got to hug Justin McElroy — OMG! He smelled nice.

As far as the show floor goes, I got to try a few new games, including the 3DS, which was not at all what I thought it would be. Listen to the podcast a little later tonight to hear more details on what my experience with the device was like.

I also got to try Firefall, which I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. Once again, my experience wasn’t quite what I was thinking it would be, which I will discuss in the podcast as well.

Sorry to be a tease, but you know…the podcast needs some love. Plus, I don’t have much more time to type this out. Speaking of the podcast, it’s quite a doozy, if I do say so myself. It includes a special interview from a certain Mega64 member among others.

I also scored a few “SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs” beta codes, which I’ll be giving away some time soon. However, the first five people who read this and e-mail me within two hours of this post can have a beta code tonight.

That about does it for my first day at PAX. Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to check out the podcast tonight.
