Ubisoft attempts to resuscitate music gaming genre with Rocksmith

Just when you thought music gaming was dead in the water, Ubisoft announces a brand new title coming out this Fall for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that the developer thinks will revolutionize the genre. So what makes “Rocksmith” different? For starters, it’s a game that doesn’t come with a controller.

The only equipment “Rocksmith” comes with is a cable with a ¼” jack, the standard for most guitar plug-ins.  Needless to say, in order to play the game, you need a real guitar with the necessary plug-in.  If you have an acoustic guitar, you’ll need to pick up a pickup.  Let’s not forget strings, picks, sweet hipster glasses — yeah, this is getting expensive.

Simply put, “Rocksmith” (not to be confused with Rocksmith) has an audience that is limited to one particular niche: people who want to play guitar.  As far as games go, it seems more like an instrument tutorial than a gamer’s game.  And while I can imagine the drive to perfect my favorite Interpol song is addicting, I’m not sure the average gamer has the time — or money — to devote to such a hobby.

That isn’t to say it doesn’t have anything going for it.  PCWorld reports that the game’s song selections will range from The Black Keys to the Rolling Stones and from Nirvana to David Bowie.  Ubisoft also says the game adapts to the player’s abilities rather than making the player select from a list of pre-set levels.

With Harmonix’ recent woes and the death of the Guitar Hero franchise, the music game genre is in dire need of a defibrulator if it’s going to survive.  “Rocksmith” is a good idea for a select group of people, but I hesitate to think it will be enough to incite a second golden era of guitar games.

I trust every one of the concepts you may have introduced for ones article. They may be extremely persuasive and may certainly get the job done. However, a content are very limited for novices. Might just you please extend these a little from future time frame? Just publish.
