The heroes and villains realized within DC’s comic books are some of the most popular and recognizable icons throughout the world. There have been many attempts by various developers to create videogames based on some of the most well-known among these characters, the most obvious being Batman and Superman.
Generally, these projects culminate in less than stellar results, with only a few bright stars shining through. Now, Sony Online Entertainment is gathering all of these heroes and villains and releasing them in one big MMO universe where players will traverse the iconic locations alongside them with their own player made characters. “Mass Effect 3” has been making the rounds in the rumor mill as of lately, but it has finally been officially announced with a launch date of “Holiday 2011.”
A first look at Firefall
“Firefall,” the first game from Red 5 Studios, was announced a few days ago at the 2010 Penny Arcade Expo. According to a Red 5 press release, the game “combines intense competitive multiplayer and large-scale cooperative gameplay,” which basically means it’s an MMO shooter.
The development team includes a few industry veterans, including Mark Kern who worked as lead developer for World of Warcraft. The game’s most appealing aspect may not be its development team but rather its price: $0.
Since the game won’t be officially released for over a year, little else is known about “Firefall”. However, a gameplay trailer has been released which contains some enticing details.
